04. History

Bruno Grangier and a partner working on a case

Leaf was founded by Bruno Grangier, a French lawyer who has been based in China since 2004. After working in Hong Kong, France and Shanghai for several years in international law firms and main European groups setting up business, Bruno Grangier founded Leaf to address Mid-caps and large groups investing in China.

Gregory Louvel and Jean-Philippe Engel became partners in Leaf, in order to successfully develop the Tech and M&A practices of the firm. The firm quickly became a strongly recognized player in the cross-border M&A and private equity deals with many operations involving European companies and groups investing in China, alongside private players and state-owned companies.

Peggy Wu became partner in Leaf. She is leading the M&A practice alongside Jean-Philippe Engel in our Shanghai office. The firm has won several awards for M&A transactions, as well as telecom and tech transactions.

Charlotte Mantoux became partner and developed the Asian Desk in Paris, after having lived in Asia for 10 years.

In Q4 of 2020, SNB Law and Leaf started a strategic cooperation in order to create one of the strongest Sino-European legal teams in China. Both Leaf and SNB aim to offer their mutual services to French, German and other European clients with the goal of increasing their coverage and reach. Furthermore, a joint M&A team is to be established and will consist of experienced professionals from France, Germany, Austria, China and Vietnam.
